Prophecy, Science, and Increasing Earthquakes

Christ Himself mentioned earthquakes as a key sign of the end times.  He outlined several such signs (all of which are currently coming to pass) in Matthew 24:6-8 – “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”  The sense one gets is that Jesus refers not just to some scattered earthquakes – for that would not be unusual and therefore would not be a “sign” – but rather that we should expect earthquakes to increase in intensity and frequency and perhaps also to occur in places where they are rarely if ever seen.

It is possible to see how pestilences can and are occurring – increasing human density combined with close proximity to farm animals (especially pigs) means that viruses jump from animals to humans and back again, breeding new disease variants for which humans have no effective immunity.  It is possible to see how famines and wars can and are occurring (see my book, “Planet In Distress” for detailed information on this).  But with earthquakes, how and why they will occur and how their occurrence can be tied to end-time events – well, that has not been clear at all.  Or at least, it wasn’t clear until recently.  Back in 2020 a research paper came out in the highly respected journal Nature citing a rock-solid correlation between large solar events (solar flares, solar storms that produce protons) and large earthquakes (over 5.6 magnitude).  The abstract for the article is so compelling that I include it below, and if you want to read the article itself, you can find it here.

Abstract (if this doesn’t interest you, skip to the next paragraph): “Large earthquakes occurring worldwide have long been recognized to be non Poisson distributed, so involving some large scale correlation mechanism, which could be internal or external to the Earth. Till now, no statistically significant correlation of the global seismicity with one of the possible mechanisms has been demonstrated yet. In this paper, we analyze 20 years of proton density and velocity data, as recorded by the SOHO satellite, and the worldwide seismicity in the corresponding period, as reported by the ISC-GEM catalogue. We found clear correlation between proton density and the occurrence of large earthquakes (M > 5.6), with a time shift of one day. The significance of such correlation is very high, with probability to be wrong lower than 10–5. The correlation increases with the magnitude threshold of the seismic catalogue. A tentative model explaining such a correlation is also proposed, in terms of the reverse piezoelectric effect induced by the applied electric field related to the proton density. This result opens new perspectives in seismological interpretations, as well as in earthquake forecast.”

What this means is that when we see significant activity in the sun, we can expect a dramatically increased chance of a large earthquake here on earth.  We saw such an event in the sun in the last few days, and se saw a correlating earthquake in the Caribbean.  Yes, we’re also seeing a massive swarm of earthquakes in Santorini off the coast of Greece, but that exceptional series of events likely involves the movement of magma through the crust (meaning we may yet see volcanic activity there) and the magma started moving before the solar event, so I don’t think we can count the Santorini quakes as a solar-triggered event.  That said, the Santorini quakes (and volcanic activity if it comes) still count toward fulfilling Christ’s prophecy and we may yet see further events there.

The implications of solar-triggered earthquakes are significant on several fronts, and not least for prophecies regarding the last days of earth.  In practical terms, we can now get better and better at predicting at least some large earthquakes.  It is not so much that the sun causes the earthquakes, as it is that it jars them loose, or at least that is my current understanding.  But whatever the actual mechanism, being able to predict in any degree large quakes (and potentially tsunamis) would be a help to man.  In regard to prophecy, we can now knit together increases in significant earthquakes as Christ predicted with increases in “signs” in the sun, moon, and stars as we read in Luke 21:25, 26 – “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”  From this we can understand that the earth and the sun and moon will more or less be ringing like a bell.  I should point out that in both the passages from Matthew and Luke that are presented, Christ is being quoted and both passages are from the same discourse to his disciples just before he was captured and taken for trial and crucifixion.  We can essentially read the two passages as one, with each providing some details the other leaves out.

Are the Santorini events a harbinger of the last days?  Is the Caribbean quake a harbinger of the last days?  Yes, but in comparison to what is coming they are  very small and relatively isolated.  The salient point here is that as we begin to see more and more “signs” in the sun, moon and stars, we will also see more and more earthquakes (apparently with about a 24-hour lag between the triggers from the sun and the actual quake on earth).  What will trigger the events in the sun, moon and stars?  We don’t know.  We only know that it will happen.  We also don’t know what will trigger the “sea and the waves roaring”.  But we’ll find out all of this soon enough.  Let’s keep watching and as we wait and  lets keep laboring for Christ for the time in which we can make any difference grows shorter with each day.
